Today  St George’s Day  we announced that St George’s School Windsor Castle will be joining St Albans Education Group (STAEG). With STAEG’s support, St George’s Windsor will come together with St George’s Ascot to create a new through school.

St George’s School Windsor Castle is one of the country’s most distinctive and historic prep schools  an award-winning day and boarding prep school set in the unique surroundings of Windsor Castle, and home to the choristers of St George’s Chapel. Its heritage, musical tradition and reputation for excellence make it a truly exceptional. The new co-educational school  St George’s School, Windsor and Ascot  will offer a seamless journey for pupils from ages 3 to 18, with access to outstanding facilities across two beautiful sites.

Located less than seven miles apart, the schools share long and proud histories, strong academic reputations, and a deep commitment to co-curricular life, particularly in music and the creative and performing arts. Both offer a range of boarding provisions that reflect the needs of modern families. Just as importantly, the schools’ ethos, values and vision align and there is a real sense of shared purpose.

The announcement comes at an early stage to ensure that staff, pupils and families can play a full part in shaping the future of the new school. Plans include St George’s Ascot becoming co-educational, with the first boys expected to join Years 7 and 9 from September 2027. The new through school is anticipated to be fully operational by September 2028.

Headteachers Hannah Fox (Ascot) and Emma Károlyi (Windsor) are looking forward to working closely together. This move strengthens the long-term sustainability of both schools and will enable collaboration and innovation alongside further investment in facilities, staff, and programmes benefiting all pupils. The schools’ shared commitment to high academic standards, strong pastoral care, and enabling every young person to thrive will remain at the heart of the new model.

Amber Waite, Principal of the St Albans Education Group said:

‘Bringing the two schools at Windsor and Ascot together on St George’s Day feels especially fitting. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to create a seamless, high-quality education for girls and boys from early years through to sixth form, while strengthening everything that already makes both schools so special.’
